      Richard, son of John and Eliabeth BYCROFT, was baptised at North Willingham, Lincolnshire, on 31 March 1816.

      Judith Lewin HORRY married Richard BYCROFT, who supposedly had a coach and carriage hire business in Holbeach, at Holbeach Free Methodist Chapel on 18 August 1886. Richard BYCROFT was described as a gentleman, a 70 year old widower, and son of John BYCROFT deceased. Witnesses were R. BYCROFT and Susan FAULKNER.

      In the 1891 census returns for Fleet Street, Holbeach, Richard BYCROFT was described as a 75 year old retired farmer who had been born at North Willingham, Lincolnshire. His wife Judith L. BYCROFT, aged 58, "living on own means"; his 28 year old stepson Arthur HORRY of no occupation; and a 27 year old domestic servant Elizabeth D. YALLUP were also present.

      The Will of Richard BYCROFT:
      "This is the last Will and Testament of me Richard BYCROFT of Holbeach in the County of Lincoln Gentleman I appoint my nephew Richard BYCROFT of Fleet in the said County Farmer and my Wife's Sons Robert John HORRY and Henry James HORRY both of Holbeach aforesaid Millers and Bakers Executors and Trustees of this my Will I bequeath to my dear Wife Judith Lewin BYCROFT all my household furniture plate linen china consumable stores and provisions in my dwelling house at the date of my deatath for her own use absolutely I bequeath to my said Wife a Legacy of One hundred pounds to be paid to her as soon as conveniently after my death I bequeath to my former Housekeeper Elizabeth now the Wife of William Silvester TILSON of Holbeach aforesaid a Legacy of Ten pounds to be paid to her within six calendar months after my decease I devise my present residence in Holbeach with the outbuildings yard and garden thereto unto and to the use of my said Wife for the term of her natural life if she continues my Widow she keeping the same in good repair and insured against loss by fire And from and her (sic) her decease or remarriage whichever shall first happen I devise the same To the use of my Trustees their heirs and assigns Upon the trusts hereinafter declared I devise and bequeath all my residuary real and personal estate (and after the decease or remarriage of my said Wife the residence buildings yard and garden hereinbefore devised to her during her Widowhood) unto and to the use of my Trustees their heirs executors administrators and assigns respectively Upon trust to sell and convey my said real estate and to convert and get in all such parts of my residuary personal estate as shall not consist of money or money owing to me from my said Nephew Richard on his Promissory Note of hand and out of the proceeds thereof and out of my ready money to pay all my just debts funeral and testamentary expenses and the Legacies hereinbefore bequeatthed and a Legacy or sum of One hundred pounds to each of my Nephews and Nieces and to each of the Nephews and Nieces of my late Wife which I bequeath to them accordingly And then to stand possessed of the residue thereof Upon trust to invest the same according and out of the annual income thereof to pay to my said Wife the yearly sum of Fifty pounds during her life if and so long as she remains my Widow and to pay to my Brother James and his present Wife during their joint lives and tto the survivor of them during his or her life the yearly sum of Twenty pounds the said yearly payments to be made half yearly and the first payments thereof repectively to be made at the end of six calendar months after my decease And I bequeatath the same accordingly And I direct my Trustees to pay or apply the residue of the yearly income of my trust estates to or for the benefit of my two Great Nephews Richard and William Sons of my said Nephew Richard BYCROFT And from and after the death or remarriage of my said Wife I release my said Nephew Richard from the payment of all monies due from him to me at the date of my death secured by his promissory note or notes of hand And from and after the decease or remarriage of my said Wife I direct my Trustees to pay to each of her sons and to Alice Jane TUPLIN Spinster formerly in my Service One hundred pounds apiece And I bequeath the same to them accordingly And subject to the Annuities payments and release hereinbefore given or directed to be made I bequeath the net residue of the proceeds of my said real and personal estates to my said great Nephews Richard and William Sons of my said Nephew Richard in equal shares I empower my Trustees to defer the sale of such part of my residuary real estate as may not be required for the purposes of my Will or any part thereof during the life and Widowhood of my said Wife and also during the same period to postpone the calling in and conversion of such part of my personal estate as shall consist of shares in public Companies and Mortgage securities but the unsold real estate and outstanding personal estate shall be subject to the trusts hereinbefore contained concerning the moneys and securities aforesaid and the rents and yearly produce thereof shall be deemed annual income for the purposes of such trusts and such real estate shall be transmissible as personal estate under the ultimate trust hereinbefore contained I direct my Trustees after the decease of my Wife (if my said Brother James or his present Wife shall be then living) to set aside a sum sufficient at the period of investment to produce the Annuity hereinbefore given to my said Brother James and his Wife and the survirvivor of them I declare that during the suspense of the sale of my real estate my said Nephew Richard BYCROFT may continue to occupy as tenant to his Co Trustees at a fair yearly rent such parts thereof as he may hold as tenant to me at the timime o of my death and that the residue thereof shall be let by my Trustees either from year to year or for a term of years as they may think fit I declare that notwithstanding the acceptance by my said Nephew Richard BYCROFT of the Trusteeship oof this my Will he shall be at liberty to bid by an Agent for and to purchase by public auction or (after the attempted sale by public auction) by private contract from my other Trustees at a fair Valuation the whole or any part of my real estate of w which he may be the tenant at the time of my death I declare that subject to the powers hereinbefore contained all investments of trust moneys under this my Will shall be made on securities on which Trustees are by law authorized to invest trust moneys I declare that any and every vacancy in the Trusteeship of this my Will shall be filled up as soon as practicable by the appointment of a new Trustee or new Trustees in the manner prescribed by law I declare that the powers and diiscretiions hereinbefore given to my Trustees shall be vested in and exercisable by the Trustees or Trustee for the time being of my Will And lastly I revoke all former and other Wills In Witness whereof I have at the bottom of the two preceding sheets of this my Will (the whole whereof is contained in three sheets of paper) and also to this third and last sheet at the foot or end thereof set my hand this nineteenth day of May one thousand eight hundred and ninety two"

      "This is a first Codicil to the above written last Will and Testament of me Richard BYCROFT the above named Testator I direct that the time of payment of the Legacy of One hundred pounds to each of my Nephews and Nieces and to each of the Nephews and Nieces of my late Wife given to them by my said Will shall be varied as follows One moiety or half part thereof shall be paid to each of them out of the proceeds of my real and residuary personal estate after my death and the remaining moiiety or half part thereof shall be paid to them after the death of my present Wife I further direct that twenty pounds that my great Niece Lilah SPRIGGS lent to my nephew Henry BYCROFT (if not repaid by him in the meantime) shall be deducted from the first moiety of his Legacy and paid to her by my Executors and Trustees And if the said Henry BYCROFT shall predecease me I bequeath the said Twenty pounds duty free to the said Lilah SPRIGGS absolutely And I ratify and confirm my said Will in all other respects In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my my hand this second day of August one thousand eight hundred and ninety four"
