Robert PILKINGTON, carpenter, son of Thomas, was admitted to scot and lot in 1752. He worked for Lord Exeter and also the Town of Stamford 1757-1791. In 1759 he made a gallery at St. George's with John and William Lindsey; in 1772 he estimated with William CLARKE and John BURTON, slater, for work at the Bull Inn (352); he was working at 14-16 St. Mary's Hill (339) in 1780 and the George Hotel (239) in 1786. In 1771 he leased a yard in Scotgate.

The Will of Robert PILKINGTON [abbreviations expanded]:
"This is the last WILL and TESTAMENT of me Robert PILKINGTON [sic] of the Parish of Saint George in the Town of Stamford in the County of Lincoln Carpenter made this fourth Day of February One thousand seven hundred and ninety
First I give and bequeath unto my Dear Wife Jane PILKINGTON All the Furniture now in the best Chamber To be by her held used and enjoyed during the Term of her natural Life or so long as she continues my Widow
Also I give devise and bequeath unto my said Wife during the Term of her natural Life or so long as she continues my Widow One Annuity or clear Yearly Rent Charge or Payment of Ten Pounds to be paid to her & her Assigns clear of all Deductions whatsoever by my Son William PILKINGTON after mentioned his Heirs Executors Administrators or Assigns by four equal Quarterly Payments at the four most usual Days of Payment in the Year Videlicet the fifth Day of January the fifth Day of April the fifth Day of July and the Tenth Day of October in each Year the first Payment thereof to begin and to be made on such of the said Days of Payment as shall next happen after my Decease
And I do hereby charge and make liable all my real and personal Estate with the sure and true Payment thereof
And I do hereby give Power unto my said Wife and her assigns from Time to Time in Case the said Annuity or any Part thereof shall be behind and unpaid after the Days and Times on which the same ought to have been paid as aforesaid and Demand made of the Person or Persons who may be liable to pay the same to enter into & upon All or any my Messuages Lands Tenements Hereditaments and Premisses hereinafter by me given to my said Son William PILKINGTON and distrain for the same and the Disistress and Distesses there found to take lead carry away impound sell and dispose of as in the Cases of Distresses for Rent towards Satisfaction and Discarge of the said Annuity and all Arrears thereof and the Costs and Expences incident to such Distress or Distresses Provided always and I do hereby declare my Will and Intention is in Case my said Wife shall [one or more lines bound into book and illegible]
All my Messuages Cottages Lands Tenements Hereditaments Premises and real Estate whatsoever and all my Stock Effects Goods Chattels and Personal Estate whatsoever and wheresoever and of what Nature Kind or Quality soever the same may be or consist or to which I am in any Manner or Ways intitled and the Furniture before by me given to my said Wife after her Decease or Marriage again I give devise and unto my said Son William PILKINGTON To hold the same unto my said Son William PILKINGTON his Heirs Executors Administrators and Assigns respectively Subject nevertheless and I hereby charge and make liable the same with the Payment of my just Debts Funeral Expences the aforesaid Annuity and also with the several Legacies after mentioned, that is to say
To my Daughter Elizabeth the Wife of John LITTLEDYKE of the Parish of St. George Stamford aforesaid Carpenter the Sum of five Shillings
To my Daughter Sarah the Wife of Thomas HOGARD of the Parish of All Saints Stamford aforesaid Whittaiver the Sum of five Shillings
To my Daughter Susannah the Wife of Robert TINGLE of Billingborough in the County of Lincoln Watch Maker the sum of Fifteen Pounds
To my Son Robert PILKINGTON of Spalding in the said County of Lincoln Baker the Sum of Twenty Pounds
and to my Daughter Mary the Wife of Thomas Smith of Pickworth in the County of Rutland Farmer the Sum of Twenty Pounds all which said several Legacies it is my Will shall be paid within twelve Months after my Decease
And I do declare my Reason for making this Difference in the several Legacies before by me given to my said Children is I have heretofore given them so much Money as each of the before mentioned Legacies given to them respectively fall short of twenty Pounds
And whereas I lately entered into a Note of Hand with my said Son in Law Richard TINGLE for securing five Pounds Now my Mind and Will is that in Case I or my Executor shall pay the said Note or any Part of the same it shall be in Ademption and Discharge of so much of the said Legacy before [two or more lines bound into book and illegible]
as I or he shall so pay shall be a charge upon my said Son Robert PILKINGTON and shall be in the first Place in Satisfaction of a Part or the whole of the said Legacy of twenty Pounds before given to him and then the Residue (if any) shall be considered as a Debt due from him to me or my said Executor
And lastly I appoint my said Son William PILKINGTON Sole Executor of my said Will revoke all former Wills by me before made and I declare this only to be my last Will and Testament
