      An Index of the Will of Peter BAVIN (1721-1788), carpenter of Gedney, Lincolnshire. The Will was made on 3 November 1780. Probate was granted on 18 March 1788.

      He was mentioned in the will of his father Peter BAVIN proved on 18 March 1788:
      "In the name of God Amen I Peter BAVIN of the Parish of Gedney and County of Lincoln Carpenter being sick and weak in Body but of sound mind and understanding do make ordain constituteand appoint this my last Will and Testament in the following manner and form. Viz.
      first I give and Bequeath unto my Son William Ash BAVIN two shillings and sixpence to be paid to him immediately after my decease by my Executors in trust herein after nam'd out of my Effects
      Furthermore I do lawfully constitute and appoint John WITTON of Gedney in the County of Lincoln Farmer and William WITTON of Lutton in the said County of Lincoln Farmer to be executors in trust of this my last Will and Testament and to help and assist my Executrix herein after nam'd likewise to sell and dispose of my good (sic) and Chattels to the best advantage that can arise therefrom likewise to ask demand recover and receive all debts Bond Bills or Notes that is may or shall be ddue or to become due after my decease for the benefit of my Executrix herein after nam'd after paying all my just debts and funeral Charges likewise I give and bequeath unto John BAVIN the son of William Ash BAVIN the Sum of Ten Pounds to be lefeft in the aforesaid Guardians hands till such time as the said John BAVIN shall Arrive at the Age of fourteen years to put him out to any trade he shall chuse that can be obtain'd with that Sum if he shall chuse a trade if not it shall remain in the Guardians hands till he arrive at the Age of twenty one years
      Lastly I do Lawfully constitute and appoint my beloved Wife Ann BAVIN and my Daughter Sarah BAVIN to be joint Executrixes of all my Goods chattels Monies and properties any ways appertaining or belonging to me so long as my Wife Ann BAVIN shall continue my Widow but providing and if in case it shall happen that my Widow Ann BAVIN shall Marry the aforesaid Guardians remit to the aforesaid Ann BAVIN my Widow only the third part of my Effects the other part (sic) to remain and be my Daughter Sarahs
      ...... it shall be lawful for the Aforesaid trustees to sell and dispose of ......y goods and Chattels Except a Sufficient Quantity of Furniture for one Room for the use of my Wife and Daughter so long as my Wife Ann BAVIN shall continue my Widodow likewise it shall be lawfull for the aforesaid trustees to put out to Intrest all the Monies or profits that may arise from from the sale threof (sic) except ten Pounds which shall be paid to my Widow Ann BAVIN to be kept as a reserve for the support of my Wife and Daughter
      The remaining Sum of Mony the aforesaid trustees to put out to Intrest The remaining Sum of Mony for the best security they can get and the Intrest to be paid yearly or half yearly to my Wife and Daughter for their support so long as she shall continue my Widow.
      Sign'd seal'd ratify'd and confirm'd declar'd by the aforesaid Peter BAVIN to be his last Will and Testament in the presence of Samuel BROWN and Mathew HANSON and Robt MILLINGTON who in his presence and the presence of each other have seen him set his hand and seal to this his last Will and Testament and have Subscribed their hands as Witnesses to the same this third day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and Eighty five."

      John BAVIN was apprenticed to William Ash BAVIN of Holbeach, Lincolnshire, carpenter, by indenture dated 18 May 1789 for a consideration of £10 and for a period of 7 years. Duty of 5s. was paid on 27 June 1789.

      William BAVIN from the workhouse was buried at Holbeach, Lincolnshire, on 5 September 1819 aged 73.
