An undated letter from her aunt A. HAYNES to Harriet COCKER (formerly EDGOOSE, 1858-1916), probably sent in May or June 1888. The grammar and spelling of this letter is in marked contrast to that in the letters of her sister Mary Elizabeth Grace EDGOOSE formerly JONES.
      "Hanley, Swan Passage, Tuesday Morning
      My Dear Neice
I received your sad telegram last evening and was very shocked at the sad news it contained. I sat down to write a line to you, but could not, I felt so put about. My boys are all very much put about over their poor dear Aunt, and I felt so troubled I can scarcely attend to anything.
Will you please send me word when you expect her poor dear body in England and where and when you intend to bury her, as I should like to come you are sure
I know my dear you will not be able to settle things all at once and I trust I shall not be troubling you to much, as I know you are so sadly. I do pray that God may give you strength to bear up in this, one of your great trials.
Your Uncle joins with me in kind love and true sympathy with you dear hoping to hear from you soon
      I remain
      Your loving Aunt A. HAYNES"
