      Jessy (sic), son of Joseph OLDFIELD, butcher, and Anne nee EDGOOSE, was baptised at West Walton, Norfolk, on 28 May 1826.

      The following information on Jesse E. OLDFIELD comes from the Judith Littleford Lee Tree on Worldconnect.rootsweb.com (Judith Lee's email address: powercat3@earthlink.net). He was born on 21 April 1827 in West Walton, Surrey (sic) and died on 1 November 1917 in DuPage County, Illinois, USA.
      "Jesse came to the United States on the ship "S.S. Victoria", arriving in New York on May 28, 1845. He was accompanied by his brother John and Hannah OLDFIELD, Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin BATTERHAM, and Mr. and Mrs. ATWOOD.
      After working on a New York farm for six months, he arrived in Chicago in December of 1845, making the trip via the Erie Canal. Here he joined a gang of wood cutters, and the following year purchased a team and went into the drayage business. He also cultivated a patch of potatoes near the outskirts of the city.
      In 1849, he worked on a farm near Cass with his brother John; the two of them renting from a George SMITH, Chicago banker. Before settling in the Cass area, some time was spent looking over the land as far west as the Fox River. Jesse ultimately owned a farm in the the Cass area, but was engaged in the stock business most of his life. In answer to a question as to what principles a man should follow in order to succeed, he replied, "A man must be honest, industrious and saving in order to succeed".
      Cass was a farming community south of Hinsdale on the old Joliet-Chicago road.
      Child Blanche died in infancy. Lillian died at 21, unmarried."

      The 1850 census of DuPage County, Illinois, lists the following:
      John OLDFIELD, aged 26, farmer, born in England;
      Hannah OLDFIELD, aged 30;
      Elizabeth M. OLDFIELD, aged 5;
      *Jesse OLDFIELD, aged 24, farmer, born in England;
      William OLDFIELD, aged 21, farmer, born England.

      The website "Dupage Co. Marriages 20 June 1839 - 28 November 1861" lists Jesse OLDFIELD's marriage to Amanda LYON on 6 (sic) November 1851.
