Notes
JAMES YALLOP 1828 or 1829 or 1830-1900
He was baptised at Congham, Norfolk, on 30 November 1834 supposedly aged 6. This is at variance with the baptisms and burials of two brothers named James.
From the 1841 census of Congham, Norfolk:
James YALLOP, aged 35, agricultural labourer, born in Norfolk;
Hariot YALLOP, aged 30, born in Norfolk;
Isac (sic) YALLOP, aged 15, born in Norfolk;
*James YALLOP, aged 12, born in Norfolk;
George YALLOP, aged 8, born in Norfolk;
Hariot YALLOP, aged 7, born in Norfolk;
Mary YALLOP, aged 6, born in Norfolk;
Elizabeth YALLOP, aged 3, born in Norfolk.
HO107/768/8/5/7)
The 1851 census of Flitcham, Norfolk:
James YALLOP, head, aged 45, widower, labourer, born at Hillington, Norfolk;
*James YALLOP, son, aged 21, labourer, born at Congham, Norfolk;
Maryann YALLOP, daughter, aged 14, at home, born at Congham;
Elizabeth YALLOP, daughter, aged 12, at home, born at Congham;
Hannah YALLOP, daughter, aged 8, born at Flitcham, Norfolk.
(HO107/1828/65/12)
He married in 1860 either Mary Ann BONTOFT or Mary Ann LINEHAM. According to an IGI patron submission Mary Ann BONTOFT was baptised at Holbeach Hurn on 20 February 1836 and married on 6 May 1860. This leaves Mary Ann LINEHAM as the most likely contender.
(GRO June Q 1860 Holbeach 7a 617)
Jean BIRD (nee YALLOP) wrote that James and his wife Mary Ann YALLOP were living at Lutton, Lincolnshire, in 1861.
He was living at Lutton at the time of the 1871 census:
James YALLOP, head, married, aged 41, general dealer, born at Congham, Norfolk;
Mary Ann YALLOP, wife, aged 38, born at Wiberton, Lincolnshire;
Elizabeth D. YALLOP, niece, aged 7, scholar, born Holbeach, Lincolnshire.
(RG10/3329/28)
He was living at High Street, Holbeach, Lincolnshire, at the time of the 1881 census:
James YALLOP, head, aged 51, marine store dealer (gen), born at Congham, Norfolk;
Mary Ann YALLOP, wife, aged 47, born at Wyberton in Lincolnshire;
Elizth. Duncan YALLOP, niece, aged 17, domestic servant, born at Holbeach, Lincolnshire.
(RG11/3211/30/16)
His wife Mary Ann died aged 61 in 1885, i.e. born 1823-1824. The age 61 is presumably a mistranscription for 51.
(GRO June Q 1885 Holbeach 7a 241)
According to the 1891 census of Woodyard Yard, Holbeach, he was a 62 year old widower, born at King's Lynn in Norfolk, and working as a rag and bone collector. He lived alone (RG12/2569/110/12).
He died in 1900 aged 70. According to a request for help in the April 1982 issue of the Lincolnshire Family Historian he died at Holbeach, Lincolnshire, on 27 September 1900.
