      The birth of John Elijah CRAFT was registered in 1865.

      According to the 1891 census John CRAFT, single, aged 25, a colliery labourer born at Bramley, Yorkshire, was boarding with William LAW and his wife Matilda at Cutts Street, Royston, Yorkshire.

      He married Elizabeth TOWNING in 1892.

      The 1901 census shows him to have been a 35 year old lock keeper at Whitley in the West Riding of Yorkshire who was born at Bramley, Yorkshire. His wife Elizabeth CRAFT was 29 years old and born in Knottingley, Yorkshire. Their four children, Eva CRAFT (6), James B. CRAFT (2), Gertrude M. CRAFT (1), and Richard T. CRAFT (7 weeks), were all born at Whitley Bridge, Yorkshire.
