John WESTMORELAND was baptised at Wigtoft, Lincolnshire, on 25 October 1812.

He was tried at the Holland Sessions in Boston, Lincolnshire, on 26 June 1848 for the felony of killing a sheep with intent to steal and was sentenced to be transported for 10 years. Nineteen year old Charles LEFEVRE was also found guilty and received the same sentence. His twenty eight year old brother Abel WESTMORELAND was found not guilty.

Keith SMITH of 29 Penny Gardens, Kirton, Lincolnshire, PE20 1HN, wrote in December 2004 that he was descended from Abel WESTMORELAND's brother John who was born at Wigtoft, Lincolnshire, in 1812.
