MARY BRADFIELD formerly COLUM 1844-1925
Mary, daughter of John CULLUM and Ann CULLUM formerly GARNER, was born at Tilney St. Lawrence, Norfolk, at 7pm on 29 June 1844. John CULLUM was a coal man from Tilney St. Lawrence. The informant on 6 July 1844 was her father John COLLUM of Tilney St. Lawrence.

At Tilney St. Lawrence on 23 August 1862 John CULLUM, a 59 year old coal-seller,
died from injuries received by falling from a cart whilst in a state of inebriety.

An inquest was held on 25 August 1862 . There is no proof that this is the right man, but we know that he died between 1861 and 1871: in 1871 his wife Ann CULLUM was described as a 68 year old widow.
The marriage between Charles BRADFIELD and Mary CULLUM (sic) took place at the Parochial Chapel at Tilney St. Lawrence on 30 July 1865. Charles BRADFIELD was of full age, a bachelor, a labourer, from Poplar in the county of Middlesex, and son of William BRADFIELD, a butcher. Mary CULLUM was of full age, a Tilney St. Lawrence spinster, and daughter of John CULLUM, coal merchant. Witnesses were Stimpson (?) CULLUM and Charlotte CULLUM.

Mary's son Charles William CULLUM was baptised at Tilney St. Lawrence, Norfolk on the following day - 31 July 1865.
Their daughter Mary Ann was born in Poplar, Middlesex, in 1867. Their daughter Sarah Jane was born at Tilney St. Lawrence, Norfolk, in 1868. Mary Ann and Sarah Jane, daughters of Charles and Mary Bradfield, were baptised together at Terrington St. John's, Norfolk, on 27 December 1868.

On 16 July 1913 she travelled from Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, to stay with one of her daughters in Buffalo, New York, USA. Her answers to the questions on the immigration form which had to be completed provided a wealth of information.
Her place of birth was Norfolk, England, and she was 69 years old.
Her permanent address was that of her husband Charles at 56 [illegible] St., Hamilton, Ontario.Her height was 4'10", complexion fair, hair 'br gr', and she had brown eyes.
She did not remember the name of the steamship in which she sailed to Canada, but she did remember that she landed in Quebec in 1875.

Mary BRADFIELD died at 242 Homewood Avenue, Hamilton, Wentworth County, Ontario, Canada, on 5 February 1925 aged 81 years. The informant was her daughter Mrs. H. C. GODDARD of 242 Homewood Avenue, Hamilton. She was buried at Hamilton on 7 February 1925. Cause of death was General Debility and Senility. Her father's name was given as John CALLUM [sic]. Her date of birth was said to be 29 June 1844 [which agrees with her birth certificate].
