Ernest Winfrey EDGOOSE was born on 26 June 1875, the son of John James and Sarah Ann EDGOOSE. John James EDGOOSE had married Sarah Ann ADAMS at Queenscliff Wesleyan Methodist Church, near Geelong, Victoria, Australia, on 18 June 1870.
A Mr. W. EDGOOSE or ADGOOSE left Brisbane for Sydney, New South Wales, on the ship Peregrine, arriving on 3 February 1899. This might refer to Ernest Winfrey EDGOOSE.

According to Ethellyn EDGOOSE he lived in New Zealand for a time. This is borne out by his presence on page 36 of the electoral roll for Hurunui district in Canterbury province in 1911. His residence was at Scargill and his occupation storekeeper.

"SCARGILL
An accident which might easily have proved fatal occured at Scargill on Sunday afternoon. Mr E. W. Edgoose. a resident of the district, was riding at full gallop along a road, when just as he was crossing a bridge, the horse tripped and pitched heavily against the side of the bridge. Mr Edgoose was thrown clear of the horse and escaped with a few bruises, but minus a good deal of skin."

"THIS IS THE LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT of me Ernest Winfrey EDGOOSE of 10 Albert Street Blackburn in the state of Victoria Gentleman - - I REVOKE all wills and testamentary dispositions heretofore made by me and declare this to be my last will. I APPOINT my brother Percy Llewellyn EDGOOSE of 1 Vincent Street Surrey Hills to be executor of this my will. I GIVE DEVISE AND BEQUEATH all my estate both real and personal and wheresoever situate unto such of my sisters Alise Bessie EDGOOSE and Lucy Clarissa MARTIN as shall survive me and if they both shall survive me then in equal shares. IN WITNESS wherof I have hereunto set my hand this 28th day of April One thousand nine hundred and fifty four.
