EDGOOSE, Frank William Dawson (1882-1951)
Frank William Dawson EDGOOSE was born at West Walton, Norfolk, on 28 February 1882, son of Stanton John and Margaret EDGOOSE.

Stanton John EDGOOSE had married Margaret DAWSON at Wisbech, Cambridgeshire, on 16 January 1872.
He was apprenticed to Richard BARNARD, blacksmith of Friday Bridge, Cambridgeshire, by indenture dated 8 March 1897, to learn the trade of blacksmith and shoeing smith. His weekly pay was set a two shillings and sixpence for the first year, three shillings and sixpence during the second year, and four shillings and sixpence during the third year. The indenture was signed by Richard BARNARD, Stanton EDGOOSE and Frank William EDGOOSE. According to his daughter, he became an engineering blacksmith but had to give up eventually because of acute bronchitis.
According to the 1901 census he and his brother Stanton Charles EDGOOSE were living at Hampden Walk, Chase Street, Wisbech St. Peter, Cambridgeshire, in the house of deal porter William C. STARR and his wife Elizabeth. Frank EDGOOSE was a 19 year old blacksmith.

He married Emma HARWIN, daughter of plate layer Robert HARWIN, at the Baptist Chapel, Upper Hill Street, Wisbech, on 16 April 1906. Frank William EDGOOSE was described as a 26 year old bachelor, a journeyman blacksmith, of 9 Oxford Terrace, Charles Street, Peterborough. Emma was a 27 year old spinster living near the Ferry Station, West of Nene, Walsoken. Witnesses were William BURBRIDGE and Ethel HARWIN.

His daughter Doris Malisande EDGOOSE (named Malisande after his wife's eldest sister's French employer) was born on 26 March 1908. She was baptised according to the rites of the Primitive Methodists at Woodstone in Huntingdonshire on 27 May the same year. Frank and Emma EDGOOSE were living at 15 Orchard Street, Woodstone.
He lived at Logan Street, Nottingham, from 1909. When his daughter died in 2003, amongst her papers were found an envelope addressed to Mr. F. EDGOOSE, 62 Bepton Road, Bulwell, in 1909 or 1910; church certificates dated 4 October 1914 showing that Frank and his wife Emma were members of the the United Methodist Church at Broomhill Road, Bulwell; and Doris EDGOOSE's attendance card for the United Methodist Sunday School at Broomhill Road, Bulwell, showing that she attended from the first Sunday in January until the 4th Sunday in March 1915.

He moved to Birmingham, Warwickshire, in 1915. According to a surviving rent book for 38 Whitacre Road, Birmingham, Mr. and Mrs. EDGOOSE arrived on 29 March 1915 and paid 7 shillings a week to the landlord or agent Arthur J. PRITCHARD of 115 Colmore Row.
Three Income Tax assessments have survived. These show that he earned
£ 39.10s. in the quarter ending 5 July 1917, £ 44.0s. in the quarter ending 5 October 1917, and £ 38.0s. in the quarter ending 5 January 1918. On each occasion there were deductions before tax as follows: Abatement £ 30.0s., 5s. for life assurance or trade union death or superannuation benefits, and £ 6.5s. for children. Income Tax on the balance was 2s.3d. in the £.

He died at home on 19 December 1951. He was described as a retired engineer's blacksmith on his death certificate.

Frank William EDGOOSE otherwise Frank of 38 Whitacre-road, Birmingham 9, died on 19 December 1951. Letters of Administration were granted at Birmingham on 7 March 1952 to Emma EDGOOSE, widow. His effects amounted to £ 887.3s.7d.

He was buried in Quinton Cemetery, Birmingham, Wawickshire, in 1951.
