James, son of Bartholomew and Elizabeth VESSEY, was baptised at Holywell-cum-Needingworth, Huntingdonshire, on 9 May 1762.

James VESSEY, publican, was buried at West Walton on 22 April 1809 aged 47.

James VESSEY's will was proved at West Walton on 14 May 1809. Beneficiaries were his wife King Barrow VESSEY, his nephew William VESSEY who was the son of his brother Bartholomew VESSEY, his niece Elizabeth WALLIS and his nephew Michael SHEARMAN who were the daughter and son of his late sister Mary SHEARMAN. The will was made on 18 April 1809. Witnesses were John BELLAMY junior, Richard LISTER, and Thomas COPELAND.
"This is the last Will and Testament of me James VESSEY of West Walton in the County of Norfolk Victualler. First I give and devise unto my wife King Barrow VESSEY all those my fourteen acres of freehold and copyhold land (be the same more or less) lying and being in Walsoken in the said County of Norfolk late the Estate of Edward Candler BROWN Esquire and purchased by me of Messrs. TECKS and DAWBARN [a word illegible] as the same are now in my own Occupation with the Rights members and appurtenances thereto belonging [illegible] in any wise appertaining And also all [illegible] my real Estate whatsoever and wheresoever [illegible - possibly 'situate'] with their appurtenances To Hold the same unto my said wife King Barrow VESSEY and to her heirs and assigns for ever Also I give and bequeath unto my Nephew William VESSEY the son of my Brother Bartholomew VESSEY the sum of thirty pounds for his own use and Benefit and I direct the sum to be paid to him by my Executrix hereinafter named at his age of twenty one years Also I give and bequeath unto my Niece Elizabeth WALLIS and Nephew Michael SHEARMAN the daughter and son of my late Sister Mary SHEARMAN the sum of twenty pounds apiece fot their own use and benefit and I direct the said two Legacies of twenty pounds to be paid to the said Elizabeth WALLIS and Michael SHEARMAN respectively within twelve Months after my decease by said Executrix
and all the residue and remainder of my Goods Chattells personal Estate Household Furniture Stock in trade monies Implements of Husbandry and Effects of every description
whatsoever I give and bequeath unto my said wife King Barrow VESSEY for her own use and benefit she paying thereout the before mentioned Legacies and all my just debts
And I do hereby nominate constitute and appoint my said Wife King Barrow VESSEY sole Executrix of this my last Will and Testament and hereby revoking all former Wills by me at any time heretofore made I do declare this only to be and contain my last Will and Testament
In Witness wherof I the said James VESSEY the Testator have to this my last Will and Testament contained in one Sheet of paper set my hand and Seal this eighteenth day of
April in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and nine."
