Patent 1B/11/1/4 Folio 218 dated 1670 refers to a land grant to an Elizabeth EDGOOSE in St. Andrew.

She was probably the Elizabeth, wife of John EDGOOSE, mentioned in the latter's will in 1673.
"Eliza. EDGOOS No. 235
Jamaica... St. Andrews. By vertue of an order unto me directed by the Hon[oura]ble S[i]r Thomas LYNCH Kn[igh]t His Majestyes Lieut. Govern[or] and Commander in chief of this Said Island of Jamaica & bearing date the 16th June [year obscureeed but probably 1673] I have measured Limitted Surveyed and laid out unto Mrs. Elizabeth EDGOOES (sic) Eighteen acres of Land in the Parish of St. Andrews which lyeth in Form and manner Represented by the annexed Figure and is bounded as is Incerted in the Sides hereof Per Formed July 26th. 1673 P[e]r me Jno WORNELL Survey[or]"
The plan shows neighbouring landowners to be Major Samuel BARRY, Mr. Nicholas HICKS, and Simon EDGOOS and Pearce JONES.

Enrolled the 18th September 1673
Charles the Second by the grace of God of England Scotland France and Ireland King & of Jamaica Lo(rd) defender of the faith &c To all whome these presents shall come Greeting Know yee th[a]t for & in consideration that Mrs. Elizabeth EDGOOSE hath transported herselfe together with her servants unto our Island of Jamaica in P[ur]suance of a proclamac[i]on before made & for her better encouragement for being one of our planters there & for divers other good causes & valuable considerations us thereunto especially moveing of o[u]r speciall grace certaine Knowledge & meere mo[ti]ons have given & granted & by these presents for us our heirs & su[cce]ssors doe give and grant unto Elizabeth EDGOOSE All th[i]s p[ar]cell of land Meaadow pasture and woodland & w[ha]tsoever Kinde of land the same is Scituate lyeing & being in St. Andrews P[ar]ish cont[eyning] Eighteen Acres bounding northerly on Mr.Simon EDGOOSE, Easterly on Mr. Nicholas HICKS Southerly on Maior Samuell BARRY & Westerly on Maior Samuell BARRY together with all edifiecs [sic]woods trees rents p[ro]fitts commodytyes wayes passages & Emolumints W[ha]tsoever growing or being upon the Premises or any p[ar]ts thereof & all mines & mineralles in the premises or any p[ar]te of them Mines of Gold & Silver only excepted To have & To hold the s[ai]d p[ar]ecll [sic] of land Meadow pasture & all and Singular the premises hereby granted with theire & Every of their appurtenances unto the s[ai]d Elizabeth EDGOOSE her heirs & assigns to the only proper use & behoofe of the s[ai]d Elizabeth EDGOOSE her heirs & assigns forever Tobeholden of us o[u]r heirs & Successors by fealty in free & common Soecage for all Services w[ha]tsoever Rendering therefore yearely & Every yeare to us our heirs & Successors one halfepenny P[er] acre for Every acre of land of w[ha]t quality soever on the feasts of St Michaell The Arch Angell & the annunciation of the blessed Virgin Mary by equall porc[i]ons at such a place as shall be appointed by the Governor or Commander in Chief & Also rendering yearely & Every yeare to us our heirs Successors on the feastes of St. Michaell the Arch Angell a Twentieth p[ar]te of the cleare yearely p[ro]fitts of all mines hereby granted w[hi]ch now are or hereafter shall happen to be had or found in the premises or any p[ar]te thereof & moreover we will & grant for us o[u]r heirs & Successors unto the s[ai]d Elizabeth EDGOOSE her heirs & Assigns th[a]t tthe Enrollment of these our letters pattents in our Chiefe Courte of Administrac[i]on of Justice within o[u]r S[ai]d Island of Jamaica shall bee to all intents & purposes for the transfereing of the premises according to the true intent & meaning of these presents as if the Same premises had been granted aliened or transferred or these presents executed by us after any other manner or way w[ha]tsoever any law custom or usage to the contrary in any wise notwithstanding Nevertheless o[u]r further will & pleasure is th[a]t the s[ai]d Elizabeth EDGOOSE her heirs & assigns shall upon any Insurrection Mutiny or foreigne Invasion w[hi]ch shall happen in o[u]r S[ai]d Island of Jamaica during his or theire residence there bee reeady to serve us & shall Serve us in Armes upon the command of o[u]r Governor there Wittnesse S[i]r Thomas LYNCH Kn[igh]tt o[u]r Li[eutenan]t Governor & Commander in Chiefe of o[u]r Island of Jamaica the Twentieth day of June in the five & twentieth yeare of o[u]r regne &c Annoque dom[ini] 1673.
