SUSAN HADFIELD/HATFIELD 1864-19??
Susan HADFIELD was born on 16 February 1864 at Cinderhill, near Caverswall in Staffordshire, daughter of Joseph and Eliza HADFIELD (sic). Eliza's maiden name was said to be DAVIES (sic). Joseph HADFIELD, a colliery banksman of Cinderhill, made his mark as the informant.

Neither her mother nor her sister Mary Ann has been traced in the 1871 census. However, the census of 175 Mill Lane, Shelton, has the following entry:

Her mother Eliza died at Newstead on 31 October 1881 at the age of 49. She was described as the widow of James EDGOOSE, collier. Her daughter Susannah HATFIELD (sic) of Newstead (sic) was present when she died.
Susannah HADFIELD and Benjamin SMITH were married at St. Mary's Kirdale in the Parish of Walton on the Hill, Lancashire, on 24 April 1887. Susannah was said to be 24 years old, a spinster, of 8 Leison Street, Walton-on-the-Hill, and the daughter of Joseph HADFIELD deceased. Benjamin SMITH was a 29 year old bachelor of the same address, a carter, and son of John SMITH, carter. Witnesses were James TAYLOR and Ann SEDDON.
