James HADFIELD, the illegitimate son of Eliza HADFIELD of 12 Howard Street, East Vale, Caverswall, Staffordshire, was born there on 12 May 1869.

1871 CENSUS 2 APRIL 1871:
The names EDGOOSE and HADFIELD are not listed in the 1871 census returns for East Vale, Staffordshire, or Newstead, Nottinghamshire, but in 1881 a James HEADGOOSE aged 11 was living at 7 Newstead Colliery with his mother Eliza and brother Joseph:

Joseph HEADGOOSE, son, aged 14, coal miner, born Stoke, Staffordshire;

Jas. EDGOOSE was admitted to the County Asylum, Nottingham, on 16 April 1884 aged 14. Apart from a record of his discharge (on death) there are no other references to him in the Asylum records.

The 1891 census returns for the County Asylum, Nottingham, list J.E. as a 25 year old patient who was born at Newstead, Nottinghamshire. The enumerator abstracted the inmates by initials only.
James EDGOOSE died on 18 March 1900 at the County Asylum, Nottingham. He was said to be 30 years old and was described as "of no occupation of Hucknall", Nottinghamshire.
Cause of Death:
Phtisis Five Months.
