He was the son of Thomas SUMPTER born in 1627 and the nephew of John SUMPTER (1622-1662):
From the will of John SUMPTER (1622-1662):
"Item I give And bequeath unto Thomas SUMPTER my brother all my Apparrell woollen hats shoos books, except my Cloake;
Item I give and bequeath unto Thomas SUMPTER the sonn of Thomas SUMPTER my brother one Ewe and a Lamb which l lambed last save one."
